MIL-STD-810G Method 508.7 Fungal Resistance Test

MIL-STD 810G Method 508.7 fungal resistance test is the current Military Standard test method providing stringent anti-fungal performance testing of materials and products.

As the current and most commonly requested MIL-STD 810 anti-fungal test,  MIL-STD 810G is used to determine if a finished product or material used in a finished product will support fungal growth.

Fungal growth can have long term impacts on an enormous range of material types including fabrics, plastics, electrical components, and even metals.  The fungal growth on these components can directly affect the physical/mechanical performance (such as decay of fabrics) or electrical isolation and corrosion of coatings used on circuit boards for insulation.

To prevent these types of fungi-related problems, it is important to assess fungal growth in a manner that is consistent with the long-term use of the product or material and take into consideration microbial deterioration in the design of a material as part of the product’s expected life cycle.   Fungal growth can affect performance or use by impairing a material’s functionality.

Military, Aerospace, and Marine products are commonly required to undergo stringent anti-fungal testing to determine how microorganism growth could affect the performance of a product in the field.  Fungi are particularly difficult to control and present high potential for impacting the long term durability for a range of materials and finished products. Laboratory testing can provide both a range of durability components in addition to the assessment for the anti-fungal agents best fit for use in a given product or material type.
