AATCC antimicrobial test standards are used globally for demonstrating a product’s performance against common microbial challenges. These standard methods are commonly used for product development and quality control testing. Developing an effective and long-lasting antimicrobial product is not always easy; however, using AATCC antimicrobial tests for antimicrobial efficacy is one way to ensure quick, reliable and valid results.

Standard AATCC antimicrobial tests include AATCC 100, AATCC 147 and AATCC 30-III for textile manufacturers and apparel companies. Single sample and high volume programs are available for development and production testing. AATCC 61 Laundering and AATCC 135 are also available for studies needing to demonstrate how an application performs after washing. Combining standard AATCC antimicrobial tests with product performance testing and durability challenges can increase the probability of long-lasting products and may also reduce the chance of performance issues commonly associated with bacteria and fungi.

Product Types

Textiles and fabrics can create an interesting environment for microbes to grow. Some materials are used on a daily basis, become wet during use, or need to last in extreme environments with out microbial contamination.

With product testing, manufacturers can test their antimicrobial treated products to determine performance before reaching the consumer. Or testing can be used as a resource for quality control testing to ensure quality product batch to batch.
