Environmental & Durability testing

Durability testing is an important consideration for antimicrobial testing, especially for products exposed to heat, UV, soil and water._DSC0157_p

Durability refers to the ability of an antimicrobial application to withstand exposure to a range of environmental conditions and keep working as intended. Often used in products and materials where varied use conditions may impact antimicrobial performance.

Using standard industrial test methods in a lab, although affective and globally recognized for demonstrating antimicrobial performance, may not provide a complete picture of how the antimicrobial will perform in ‘real’ conditions.

An important part of any formulation or application test, durability testing can provide a more complete picture of an antimicrobials efficacy. Options include exposure to heat, laundering, soil, UV, foaming and turbidity.

Durability testing is an important part of product development; it provides data on how a product will perform when exposed to a variety of conditions that may be inevitable, but are not always taken into consideration during the product development stage.

Environmental and durability testing is commonly requested to evaluate the shelf life of plastic containers and personal care products, laundering cycles for textiles, and UV exposure for foam.
