OECD 301C – MITI Biodegradation Test
OECD 301 C is a Modified MITI (Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Japan) aerobic biodegradation test.
OECD 301C is a 28 day respirometry test that predominantly measures oxygen consumption.
OECD 301C is suitable for poorly soluble materials and can be used with volatile material samples. Although similar to the other 301 biodegradability tests, OECD 301C has specific test parameters that differ from the other methods.
When making product claims about a material’s biodegradability performance, it is highly recommended to review testing requirements with the appropriate regulatory agency to determine which biodegradation testing is required to make performance claims about a material’s biodegradability.
Additionally, many chemical and physical properties can impact biodegradability testing and it is important to communicate these properties with the testing laboratory prior to beginning a biodegradation test. For more information on biodegradability testing and how a material’s chemical or physical properties can affect biodegradability testing, please visit our Biodegradability Testing – Chemical Impacts page.
Customers commonly request Biodegradability and Toxicity testing simultaneously to meet regulatory requirements and to gain market acceptance.
